Cabarrus County Partnership for Children Announces Lauren Westin as New Executive Director
The Cabarrus County Partnership for Children (CCPC) is pleased to announce that Lauren Westin has been selected as the organization’s next Executive Director, effective March 1, 2026, following the retirement of longtime Executive Director Ann Benfield.
Westin currently serves as Associate Director at CCPC and has been with the organization since October 1, 2018, when she joined the Partnership as Program Manager. Over the past seven years, she has played a key role in strengthening relationships with early childhood educators, direct service providers, and community partners while helping advance the Partnership’s mission to support young children and families across Cabarrus County.
Prior to joining CCPC, Westin worked in Wilmington as a Business Manager for a behavioral health agency. She holds a degree in Communications from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
“I really love this organization, the culture, the people, and the families and educators we serve,” said Westin. “I didn’t want to lose what makes the Partnership so special. I’m excited to continue working alongside this incredible team, supporting the relationships I’ve built over the last seven years, and carrying forward everything Ann has built while also looking for thoughtful opportunities to enhance our impact.”
As Executive Director, Westin plans to focus on deepening the impact of the Partnership’s strong and trusted programs, rather than rapid expansion, while remaining open to longer-term opportunities for growth. Her priorities include continued advocacy for young children, supporting early educator compensation and retention, and sustaining meaningful connections with the child care community, including the collaborative cohort of child care owners and directors that continues to meet monthly.
Westin credits Benfield as a key mentor and influence on her leadership approach. “Ann’s dedication and commitment to young children has been constant,” Westin said. “She taught me that ultimately, it’s always about the children, families, and the community. That lesson will continue to guide my work.”

Benfield, who will retire after 45 years of service in education, expressed confidence in the transition.
“Lauren’s leadership, heart for children, and deep understanding of our community make her the right person to guide the Partnership into its next chapter,” said Benfield. “The strength, credibility, and relationships the Partnership has today are very much a reflection of collective commitment, and I know Lauren will continue that work with great care.”
Looking ahead, Westin shared her vision for her first year in the role. “Success means ensuring the Partnership is supported, trusted, and well positioned to carry out our Strategic Plan, respond thoughtfully to emerging needs, and continue building a future where all children and families in Cabarrus County thrive.”
Westin will continue her involvement with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a program she is deeply passionate about, as she transitions into her new role.
Community Support Encouraged
The Cabarrus County Partnership for Children’s impact is made possible through strong community investment. As CCPC continues to strengthen early childhood systems and support families and educators, financial contributions play a critical role. Community members are invited to support the Partnership through one time or monthly donations to invest in early childhood programs, educator support, and family services.
